Tomorrow: A mystical land where 99% of all human productivity, motivation and achievement is stored.
Let’s see how many of you can relate to this…I actually enjoy writing. I have a professional blog and have wanted to blog for years before I actually began. I have also started to write several books. I have completed 0 to date.
That is going to change pretty soon. I have committed to ramping up my writing both for myself and my Lense and Co clients. Currently I write content for the East Bay Women’s Network here in Alameda, CA. I smile every time I sit down to write the monthly content. The content is informative and for promotional purposes. Nothing super creative, but I love it nonetheless.
The problem comes with the scheduling my work and life. Writing requires focus and none of that multitasking business that too many of us subscribe to now. Multitasking is not always productive. We are constantly interrupted by email alerts, Facebook notifications, Candy Crush invites and phone calls. A few years ago I participated in an engineering forum. I understood about half of the content that was covered during that 4 or 6 hour event. There was a keynote speaker and I understood everything he had to say. It was eye-opening. The speaker spoke about happiness in the workplace. He also touched on the fact that we are too distracted. Multitasking is not always a good thing. Years later, I finally get it.
I am challenging myself and YOU to set aside at least 1 hour each day to work on something you want to complete. I challenge you to dedicate this 1 hour to be free of interruption, well as much as possible. If you work out of your home office and the kids need food, the dog needs untangling or the fire alarm is going off, please by all means take time to handle that! So yes 1 hour each day, uninterrupted to work towards your next masterpiece. Mine will be several published books. What will your masterpiece be?
